Nanya and Inotera Plan Not to Submit Application for Government Funding |
Taoyuan, Taiwan (R.O.C.) October 20th, 2009 – Nanya Technology Corporation (“Nanya”) and Inotera Memories, Inc. (“Inotera) appreciate the concerns, which the Taiwan Government has put forward about local DRAM businesses, including safeguarding and restructuring the local DRAM industry. We believe that if the four requirements set by the Taiwan Government regarding “DRAM Restructuring” can be fully achieved, there would be no problem to establish DRAM technology independence to promote technology enrooting and DRAM consolidation, and to further enhance the worldwide competitiveness of DRAM makers in the island.
The management philosophy of Nanya and Inotera has been focusing on technology enrooting already for the past years. Nanya currently has a R&D team of 800 talents endowed with ability and profound groundwork of technology development. The endeavor to enhance DRAM technology independence and to cultivate self-owned brands conforms with the principles of the government’s reformation policy.
Nanya and Inotera are converting their manufacturing process technology to the 50nm technology process at the current stage to lower the manufacturing cost substantially. Encouraging results have been coming out of the 40nm technology which is under joint development with Micron Technology, and the mass production of 40nm technology is expected to start in the second half of Year 2010. 30nm technology and further advanced technologies, such as 4F2, are also under development. With the continuous development of high-end memory products, Nanya and Inotera believe that our camp will surely fulfill the government’s requirements for technology enrooting to further contribute efforts to the development of the DRAM industry in Taiwan.
The current DRAM industry is different from what it was a year ago. The best timing for DRAM reformation or consolidation under this scheme has passed. To consolidate partial capacity does not bring much help to DRAM restructuring. After thoughtful consideration, our camp has therefore decided not to submit the application for government funding.
