Ultra Rugged Applications
MilPAC™ is a fully sealed, high performance portable computer designed for use in extremely harsh environments. Built to survive both military and industrial “lethal zones” – applications conventional rugged portables can’t survive – this ultra-tough portable was developed to take the everyday punishment rugged portable computers are subjected to, in stride. The MilPAC is engineered to survive situations in remote field service, on-site maintenance, flight line systems analysis, geophysical exploration, shipboard exposure, factory floor environments, and military deployment.
Industrial Engineering
A rugged full metal enclosure protects the MilPAC from the harsh effects of everyday indoor/outdoor mobile computing. The aluminum frame shields the internal parts from shocks up to 40g (non-operating). Up to IP 65 protected, a dust-proof door shields the I/O connectors from dust, wind and moisture exposure. In environments where extra protection is required, the MilPAC Plus offers a corrosion-resistant finish, locking internal component connectors, sealed military-style power connectors, sealed power switches and a screw-in power cord. A removable screw-down cover shields the fan opening from intruding dust and particles during transport. For IP 65 protection, add the optional 95-key rubber keyboard with combat light and integrated mouse key to the MilPAC Plus. Consequently, there is no problem using the MilPAC outdoors where exposure to rain, dust or snow can be expected to be part of the normal day.
Performance and Features
Available in a choice of system configurations, a 2GHz Pentium® 4 processor, up to 2GB SDRAM with 16MB video RAM or a 3GHz Pentium® 4 processor, up to 2GB of DDR memory and 32MB video RAM, the MilPAC can meet your requirements. A fold-up locking keyboard protects the bright 14.1-inch color XGA TFT display during transport. The MilPAC provides three open PCI expansion slots and offers a PCMCIA CardBus option for additional expansion. In the event of a power failure, an optional UPS battery operated, back-up system can maintain the unit’s power for up to 20 minutes, allowing enough time to safely shut down your system. An auto-switching 160 watt, 110/220V AC power supply equipped with 12-30V DC input functionality assures worldwide operation regardless of the location.

Shock and Vibration Resistant
NotePAC™ is completely sealed from intrusion by water, salt laden air, and blowing dust and dirt. It combines a high-strength castmagnesium case and shock mounted components to form a portable platform that can withstand a 15g operating shock load and a 50g non-operating shock load – as might be experienced during rough transportation. For example, NotePAC can operate continuously in high vibration environments, such as found in rotary winged aircraft and off-road vehicles.
Tested and Certified
NotePAC has been thoroughly tested to MIL-STD 810F and IEC 529 to prove conformance to all design goals for shock and vibration loading. To ensure that the system meets all moisture and dirt intrusion requirements, it is certified to the stringent criteria of IP 54 set by the National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (NEMA) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
High-End Computing Performance
The NotePAC configuration includes a powerful Intel® Pentium® M processor, featuring Centrino™ mobile technology, wireless ready, 256MB of DDR memory (up to 1 GB DDR optional), PCMCIA/Cardbus, 3D audio, and a fully sealed rubber keyboard with an integrated pointing device. The fully rugged Dolch NotePAC is the world's most versatile and expandable notebook, offering the widest range of I/O ports and accessory upgrade ports, in the industry. The NotePAC expansion module is the only fully rugged notebook to accommodate either two 3/4 size PCI cards or two 3/4 size ISA cards. Mass storage is provided by a standard removable EIDE hard drive. Ultra-Rugged Casework
FieldPAC´s ultra-rugged attaché enclosure is formed using two matched case halves that are deep drawn industrial aluminum. The adjustable upper display section pivots on two high strength constant torque hinges. Positive action latches are provided to secure the unit in the closed position, a combination creating an extremely stiff and rugged enclosure. Compact Versatility
Thanks to compact dimensions, an ultra-rugged design, a low weight factor and high functionality, the VersaPAC is perfect for in-vehicle, military and factory floor applications. It is one of the smallest personal-computers available anywhere. The VersaPAC controls all standard PC functions and offers expanded functionality, including GPS, and GPRS (based on service availablity).
Big Things Come in Small Packages
The VersaPAC is equipped with state-of-the-art power-saving components which consume only 30 Watts, a fraction of the energy consumption of a common desktop PC. It features an Intel CPU and all the functions of a standard PC such as VGA, USB, mouse, and keyboard.
Expanded Functionality
In addition to the standard interfaces, the VersaPAC offers a variety of input and output ports, including 8 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs and eight 12-bit analog inputs with a voltage range from 0V up to 10V. A screen display is available via an analog or LCD SVGA monitor connected to the VGA plug. A second video channel is available with three different interface variants such as 24-bit panel link, 18/24/36-bit-LVDS or analog output. The optional GPRS serves as voice and data transmission with up to 32kbit/s via the GPRS net. By means of the GPRS, the user can send email, telephone via headset and surf the Internet.
Instant Power-Up
The VersaPAC has been designed for permanent operation, i.e., the computer will be booted once and never switched off again. While the system is not in use, the unit will go into a sleep mode (power saving, 5 Watt). When needed, the normal mode can be trigged with a simple touch of a button (instant on).
Smart Card Security
The VersaPAC can be equipped with an optional integrated smart card reader. Access to data and Internet can be protected via the smart card. In addition, the booting and registration of the operating system can be controlled via the smart card.

DOLCH NOTEPAC RECEIVES HIGH MARKS FROM IRAQ BATTLEFIELD

Fremont, California, July 8, 2003, Dolch, the world leader in delivering industrial portable computer solutions, participated in the Iraq war by sending its NotePAC products with US troops as well as embedded members of the media. From special operation forces to construction battalions, the all-metal NotePAC survived anything thrown at it. As a mobile communications device, it allowed embedded members of the media to report battlefield information in real-time, as it unfolded. Linked with a satellite communication system, reporters were able to transmit data, audio and graphics to accomplish immediate publication of their reports.
Embedded with the 101st Airborne Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Bob Ackerman, Editor and Chief of Signal magazine had this to say about the NotePAC, the computer worked perfectly when I was in the desert, which gave this war correspondent a degree of peace of mind not easily obtainable under fire? He added, this rugged laptop was the envy of almost everyone in the 101st. Many soldiers asked to see the machine that they had heard about from their friends, and they expressed the desire to have one.?
