RHEINMETALL DEFENCE ELECTRONICS - LAND BASED VEHICLE AND BATTLEFIELD SIMULATION
RHEINMETALL DEFENCE ELECTRONICS specialises in the manufacture and supply of electronics equipment and systems for applications within the defense industry. One of Germany's leading electronics and systems companies, RHEINMETALL DEFENCE ELECTRONICS covers a broad spectrum of services in the simulation field including tank gunnery and combat simulation, battlefield and direct fire weapon effects simulation, traffic and driving simulation, nautical and tactical simulation and flight simulation part task/full mission. The company also offers power plant and process simulation as well as courseware and integrated training management software.
With well over 250 configurations of various simulator types in operation worldwide for both civil and defense use, RHEINMETALL DEFENCE ELECTRONICS can lay claim to an acknowledged leadership in the development of systems designed for specific army requirements, ranging from gunnery simulation to driving training.
COMBAT TRAINING CENTER
It combines direct fire weapon effects simulators with STN ATLAS Elektronik® information technology:
- Command personnel training under combined arms combat conditions at battalion level
- Two-party combat exercise combining all weapon systems including artillery, minefields and air threats (up to 3,000 participants, 300 weapon systems, 500 vehicles, 70 command elements from battalion to group)
- The participants are equipped with active and passive direct-fire weapons effect simulators, DGPS positioning systems and radio link for data transfer
The result is realistic battlefield stress, the "fog of war" and battle outcomes that depend on skills, tactics and combined arms teamwork. Training field realism is achieved through:
- laser-duel simulators for all direct fire weapons
- hit scoring laser detectors on vehicles and soldiers body harnesses
- simulation of indirect fire damage such as fire power and mobility kill
- firing signature and hit effects simulations such as smoke, flash and noise
- simulation of area weapon effects such as indirect fire, mine or NBC effects
- fire marking smoke in target zone of area weapon effects
The CTC also includes the operation control center for digital acquisition, representation and evaluation of all combat data training data from the battlefield. So during the AAR (After Action Review), soldiers consider what happened, why and how to improve performance, based on the actual event data.
The objective is to improve the command performance and the troops behaviour and to acquire and evaluate different combat training data.

Operator's control station in the CTC central. It enables exercise control and feedback for two opposing forces. Here tactical communications, video and combat event data are processed and stored.

ACE (Army Command and Control Equipment), especially designed for retrofit in different types of vehicles. It consists of operating and display unit, computer module and mission data terminal unit.
TRAFFIC AND DRIVING SIMULATION
Truck Driving Training: Based on an integrated concept (classroom, CBT, simulator, vehicle) and Training Management System (TMS), drivers of various vehicles - from solo vehicle to tanker tractor trailer train with different engine power- can be trained. Some highlights:
- Platform and cab motion system to represent cab vibrations as well as acceleration, braking and bend effects
- Intelligent interactive external traffic with up to 40 active vehicles and persons visible simultaneously
- Interactive generation if exercise for on-line and off-line selection of events involving vehicles, the environment and traffic

AGSR truck driver trainer. With this concept for the German army, training shall be performed in an even more effective way.
Tank Driving Training: The application is the training of tank drivers in road and cross-country-driving and in driving under combat conditions. We have experience in the simulation of Leopard 1A5, CV 9030 and M60A3.

The Norwegian Army recently received a driving simulator system for the their Leopard 1A5N and CV 9030N tanks. It enables a training under winter conditions with up to 2m of snow cover.
COMBAT SIMULATION
It enables a tactical training of entire tank crews in combined arms combat. The configuration includes a replication of all crew stations.
- Visual simulation of all optical sights including open-hatch-view
Free movement in a virtual exercise terrain of at least 10km x 15km
Intelligent scenario control
Complex tactical scenarios with more than 80 objects
PRECISION GUNNERY SIMULATION
A basic and advanced precision gunnery training, but also a basic tactical and integrated team training is possible. The training areas comprise:
- Acquisition of basic operational skills
Detection, recognition and identification of targets
Target engagement
Selection of weapons and ammunition
Range finding and range setting
Aiming and firing at stationary and moving targets
Degraded system operation
COMMAND AND CONTROL / RECONNAISSANCE SYSTEMS
C³I systems from RHEINMETALL DEFENCE ELECTRONICS allow high-speed processing of reconnaissance data used for operational command of large military units. These systems provide a continuous detailed display of the tactical situation.
Fundamental elements of the systems are the tactical terminal, command computer, mission data terminal and driver's indication unit. Tactical situations, commands, messages and alarms are transmitted quickly and without errors, digitized terrain maps are displayed on high-resolution color screens.
The company's reconnaissance systems are easy to operate, provide an effective display of the relevant information and are flexible in terms of utilization. The company has had a decisive share in the equipment of the German/Dutch FENNEK project with observation and visual systems. The BAA observation and reconnaissance equipment, a sensor carrier mounted on a mast is the most important source of information. Targets at distances of up to 10km are recognized and these are detected at ranges up to 2km.
Via radio link, ground sensor packages (acoustic, seismic, magnetic and infrared) used to monitor terrain which cannot be observed otherwise transfer data to the vehicle at distances up to 10km.
The multi-sensor platform warrants visibility at night and day on grounds of its opto-electronic acquisition and localization capability with automatic tracking of objects.
Unmanned reconnaissance systems from RHEINMETALL DEFENCE ELECTRONICS offer maximum technical reliability, operational flexibility and an all-weather capability. For example, the KZO/BREVEL air vehicle is a reconnaissance and locating system of the latest generation. The air vehicle developed for the artillery delivers reliable picture material and target data in real-time.

AGPG simulator for the training of AIFV-crews (MARDER) in combined arms combat. It is a replication of turret, driver station and troop leader's station and includes 160 targets and effects and intelligent scenario control of enemy forces.
Fire Control Systems For Tanks
RHEINMETALL DEFENCE ELECTRONICS is one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of fire control systems for different mission areas. The company has, for instance, equipped all of the Leopard 2 main battle tanks for the German Army and other allied forces with the fire control system.

TACOS is a tank combat simulator for various main battle tanks, sold to many customers worldwide. It allows for a precision gunnery training and tactical team training on platoon level.
